Excitifier

An exciter works by adding upper harmonics. These are harmonics that are often lost in a mix, even though the individual tracks sound fine, so the exciter can be used to "un-muddy" a mix. This often works better than an eq to remedy this problem since if you simply boost high frequencies as an eq does, you can end up with excessive noise.
