Neyrinck Releases Soundcode For Dolby E Version 2

San Francisco-based Neyrinck is now shipping SoundCode For Dolby E Version 2 (Mac / Win) as a free update for current owners of SoundCode For Dolby E.

SoundCode For Dolby E Version 2 was designed for post-production studios, TV mixers, and broadcasters delivering, receiving, and monitoring Dolby E on video tape or as files. Version 2 features an accelerated Dolby E encoding engine for faster encodes, which the manufacturer says are 1.5 to 4 times faster, depending upon the computer system.

With this updated version, Dolby E encoding now operates directly in Apple Final Cut Pro and Apple Final Cut Express as an export plugin. One or more project sequences can be selected from a project to be exported as Dolby E, and the plugin automatically uses the time code, frame rate, and optionally the in and out points of each sequence. For more efficient workflow, its Batch Processing mode lets any combination of sequences to be Dolby E-encoded simultaneously.

Along with encoding, SoundCode For Dolby E’s decoding has been extended in version 2 as well. VST and Audio Units plugins have been added to allow real-time Dolby E monitoring in workstations such as Steinberg Nuendo, Pyramix, and Apple Soundtrack Pro. In addition, Dolby E monitoring has been extended to output all eight channels simultaneously, and a Hot Folder decode feature has been added to the standalone app for ingest workflows.

On Mac systems, Neyrinck has created a utility called N-Mon that uses the Audio Units plugin as a real-time Dolby E monitor for QuickTime Player, Final Cut, or an external video tape deck. N-Mon provides direct application monitoring by providing a core audio input device to which you can connect any core audio application; what’s more, N-Mon uses the Audio Units decoder plugin to decode and play the audio output to any Core Audio device and provides the option to monitor from any Core Audio input. The result is that a Mac can operate as a standalone Dolby E monitor for testing videotape laybacks.
