Here is an interesting video we spotted from Graham Cochrane at The Recording Revolution.com. In every discussion about this subject, mixing on headphones is usually dismissed as a bad idea. But here Graham puts forth some interesting points why it may be a good idea after all.
In this video he put forth the arguments that headphones can help those of us who don’t have access to a world studio facility. We can have consistency in the monitoring, increased clarity and hear the more subtle aspects of the mix quite easily.
He does point out the pitfalls of exclusively listening on headphones as well, the inevitable ear fatigue and the need to change to any sort of loudspeaker to refresh your ears. All good advice to help you hear what might be not quite right about your mix.
